The best lunch box for school kids

An honest Yumbox review

Alright, let's talk about one of the most boring jobs of parenting – making kids pack lunches. It is the most boring gig in the parenting world.

It's like a never-ending assembly line of boring sandwiches, fruit slices, and maybe some sad-looking veggies if you're feeling ambitious. Trying to come up with something that won't get an eye-roll from your kid or end up in the trash is a daily mission that's just exhausting. And let's not forget the constant negotiations over what's cool and what's totally uncool to bring. Which child likes what food - It's like navigating a lunchtime war zone of tiny food preferences.

Who knew that being a lunch chef could be so mind-numbingly repetitive and surprisingly political?

To all the parents out their - I have found the answer ..... the Yumbox.

This is my opinion and I have not been paid for this article.

The first thing you need to know about these magical yumboxes is they are airtight - yes they actually are! Put a few crisps in and they will still be crunchy by lunchtime.

Why is a Yumbox so expensive?

Yes it is, they retail around £30 but don't let that put you off. The tray is thick plastic and and so really welll made - it is worth every penny. This lunch box will last the time. Mine still look as good as the day I bought them.

Is a Yumbox easy to clean?

So easy to clean, the tray comes out making it super easy to clean all areas.

Can you put Yoghurt in a Yumbox?

Yes you can - and it doesn't leak! I've added yoghurt and blueberries and it really doesn't leak. You can put all liquids in a yumbox and they DO NOT leak.

Which size Yumbox should I buy?

It can look confusing. But actually, there are 3 sizes of Yumbox.

  • Yumbox Original and Panino (for little eaters, I'd guess for under 8s)
  • Tapas (bigger eaters, I'd guess for over 8's)
  • Snack box (for a mid-morning snack)

Yumbox Original and Panino

These are the same size - 8.5" x 6" x 1.8". Great for younger children, I would suggest under 8's, or small eaters.

The 6 compartments are great for kids who like variety where as the 4 compartments are better for those who like sandwiches.

Yumbox Tapas

This yumbox is 9.5" x 6.9" x 1.8"

Suitable for older children and adults. This size Yumbox holds so much food.

Yumbox Snackbox

Perfect for those who love a snack. This box is tiny at 6.7" x 5.1" x 1.8" but does surprisingly hold quite a lot.

What is bad about a Yumbox?

Nothing is perfect so what are the faults with the yumbox?

You do need to make sure you push down a lot when you close the yumbox to make sure there isn't a gap at the sides. I have accidently overfilled the yumbox and there has been a tiny gap and my daughter has complained her crisps were soft.

Still not convinced about whether to buy a Yumbox?

I love this product so much I am embarrased to say I now own 5 of them ðŸ™ˆ
